"Wellness is our way of life."
Make your home where "retirement" means "vitality."
What puts the glow of health on the faces of our Residents at Middlewoods of Farmington, CT? It’s the strong emphasis on wellness, from exercise classes to the Wii bowling team to our three-times-a-week trips to the local YMCA. It’s the regular wellness clinics, with blood pressure and weight monitoring, and seminars on a host of health topics. It’s the Planetree Philosophy of holistic therapies, from massage and yoga to Reiki, complementing Western medicine. Above all, it’s being involved in daily community life—and feeling at home in a retirement setting that encourages a positive outlook.
Health and Wellness Director Anne Henfey, RN, puts it this way: “You can’t take care of people’s nursing needs without knowing their human needs. Unlike other places I’ve worked, the CNA team here doesn’t just do their jobs. They do everything—serving food, joining in activities, becoming a real part of our Residents lives.”
Anne, honored with a 2010 Planetree-Picker Fellowship to study best practices in senior care, exemplifies the Planetree approach: “I expected to be a nurse here; I didn’t expect all the Residents to know as much about me as I do about them. One of my proudest moments was when a Resident’s daughter said, ‘You’re like a sister to me because you care about my mother as much as I do.’”
